ABOUT THIS EVENT:
Join Hiking With Pride for a MODERATE XC ski and snowshoe to Coney Flats from Beaver Reservoir in the Indian Peaks. The route is mostly through forest, with some open sections. The payoff is an amazing view of the Sawtooth throughout the west-bound portion of the trip.
The route is ~6.5 miles, round trip, with ~700 ft elevation gain.
NOTE: This trip will be modified if the winds at the Ward weather station are over 30MPH the morning of the trip.

WEATHER: Be prepared for winter conditions! Although much of the route is in the trees, there are several sections with little to no tree cover.

CARPOOL ETIQUETTE: If you ride with someone, you contribute the cost. Suggested $5 minimum per person for travel round trip from the carpool meeting spot. (Gas cost for 100 miles in a 20mpg vehicle is ~$12.50.)

EQUIPMENT: REI has a great “full featured” packlist at https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/snowshoe-checklist.html Our trip is on gentle terrain with no known avalanche exposure. No ice axe or avalanche equipment needed.
In addition to water, a thermos of hot tea or soup is recommend. BE PREPARED FOR WIND.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Intermediate, ~7 miles round trip, moderate incline, variable snow conditions.
FITNESS LEVEL: Fit – You should be active and able to spend ~5 hours moving at a moderate 2mph snowshoe pace without significant breaks. Be prepared for cold and wind. Carry a thermos of hot tea or soup. Have a windproof layer and an extra warm layer should there be an emergency where the group must stop for an extended period of time.
MOBILE DEVICE ETIQUETTE: Please respect the nature of the Wilderness. Use your phone as a camera & enjoy the separation from the rest of the world. Please be considerate of others by turning off all audible alarms.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT: USFS regulations require dogs must be leashed.
