A mixer hosted by Colorado’s bisexual community to help welcome in newly out bisexual, queer, and LGBTQ+ folks. Everyone under the rainbow, at every stage of being out, is encouraged to attend. We’ll have food and drinks.
Coming out is hard. For a lot of us, it felt isolating, even scary. Then you finally work up the nerve to go to an LGBTQ+ event, and it’s a packed bar or a big club, and somehow that feels just as intimidating. And dating/hookup apps aren’t exactly community either.
This night is for changing that. BConnected is all about community, and we’re starting a new tradition of hosting “NewB Nights” twice a year to welcome in the newly out bisexual or queer people in an intentional way.
Join us at my house in Longmont for a relaxed evening of snacks, drinks, and good conversation. Help create a softer landing for people who are newly out, and a chance for the rest of us to say: hello, I see you, it gets better.
We’ll have folks who just came out, folks who’ve been out for decades, and everyone in between. Come mix, mingle, and share a little wisdom (or get some).
What to expect:
My house is a spacious place with plenty of room to mingle around inside and out. After you get checked in, you’ll get a name tag. Write your name, pronouns, and if you’re a NewB (anyone under the rainbow who’s come out in the last year), or how long you’ve been out, if you want to share. Nobody is counting. Maybe you’ve been out for two years but don’t know anyone in the community—you count as a NewB too.
We’ll also have paper and pens available to write some friendly notes to the NewBs. “What I wish I had known when I came out” or “the best part about being out is____.” We’ll read these out loud during the evening.
Depending on the drought conditions, we’ll have a campfire in the backyard.
FAQ
Do I have to identify as Bi?
No, but because the Bisexuals are hosting, we never miss a chance to make a B-related pun. So tonight, you’re a NewB (get it?! Har har). You just need to be coming out as LGBTQ+.
Can I bring a straight friend or partner?
Absolutely. Straight allies are always welcome to BConnected events when they’re with their LGBTQ+ person.
I’m a little shy. What if random people hug me and make a big deal?
Queer people tend to be pretty good about consent; nobody’s going to tackle-hug you. This is a warm, easy welcome, not a receiving line. Come find me first when you arrive, and I’ll help you ease in at your own pace. You need other Bi/Queer people in your life. BConnected is where you find us.

Volunteers get in for free, but spots are limited. Reach out to three@bconnectedcolorado.com ASAP if you’d like to help set up, greet people, help in the kitchen, or help clean up.
