Dear Bconnected Community,
When I first started Bconnected back in 2016, I’ll be honest—I was just trying to find people like me. I was married and newly out as bi, and I felt like I was navigating uncharted waters with very few people to relate to. I needed a space where I could connect with others who understood what I was going through. What started as a simple Meetup group was, in many ways, a coping mechanism as I struggled through the first five years of coming out.
Those early days were challenging. Coming out isn’t always a linear process; it’s full of twists, turns, and moments of doubt. But through it all, this group became a lifeline for me. It was a place where I could be myself, where I could talk about my experiences with people who got it. It was a space where I didn’t have to explain or justify who I was—I could just B.
As the group grew, I realized that Bconnected was more than just a support system for me—it was becoming a vital community for so many others. That’s when it occurred to me that I needed to create more structure and security for the group—hence the nonprofit! There was no formal way to collaborate when we were just a meetup group. Not to mention, I was the only one who knew the password to Meetup this whole time. Imagine if I had fallen off my bar stool and couldn’t remember how to sign back in?!
I admit, I dragged my feet for a bit because I was afraid not to actually own Bconnected. But I know this is the right choice. Now we can build up the board, raise money for projects, and eventually, I can pay people to help me run this sucker!
Community has always been my passion. There’s something incredibly powerful about bringing people together, creating spaces where we can be ourselves, share our stories, and support one another. Plus it’s fun, and Bconnected is about joy!
Over the last four years, I’ve also taken on another role in my life—I became a minister. Yes, correct. That’s REVEREND Three to you. 😜 My spiritual work is nondenominational, rooted in energy work and the belief that we can heal ourselves and make transformational change as individuals and collectively. As we grow Bconnected into a nonprofit, I want to bring this spiritual work into our community as a way to deepen our connections and support one another on a more meaningful level. This is something that you can participate in or not—no biggie. Once I find a location, I’d like to lead monthly easy-peasy meditation (with donuts after, of course).
What started as a way to cope became a mission to create a dynamic, thriving community where we could all belong and collaborate together. This is my life’s work.
Now, as we launch our nonprofit, I’m filled with excitement for what lies ahead. We’ve grown to over 2,700 members, and I believe that’s just the beginning. My vision is to develop a collaborative culture that reflects our bi/queer identities through art, stories, traditions, and more. This isn’t just about creating a community—it’s about celebrating who we are and making our mark on the world.
Thank you for being a part of Bconnected and for helping to make this dream a reality. Together, we’re building something beautiful.
Cheers,
Three Brodsky
